LUVERNE — The Pike Liberal Arts JV football team moved to 3-0 on the season Tuesday night as they defeated the Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars 36-16.

“I was happy with the way everyone played,” PLAS head coach Bob Pickett said. “We just have to keep getting better each week. And we have to take it one week at a time.”

Pike totaled 357 yards of offense on the night including 272 on the ground and capped by an 85-yard touchdown pass from Josh Starling to Nick McLaughlin.

McLaughlin would account for 171 yards and two touchdowns on five carries, while Greggory Barnette would add seven carries for 61 yards and a score.

Robert Benton broke away in the third quarter and scamper 85 yards for a touchdown.

Barnette led PLAS with eight tackles. McLaughlin and Kimball Stacey would add five tackles each and Stacey also had a fumble recovery. Ross Herring would also recover a Cougar fumble while Starling had an interception. Taytom Barnes added four tackles.

Pike will host Lakeside Academy of Eufaula Tuesday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The PLAS Pee Wee football team took down Crenshaw Christian 26-0 Tuesday.

After forcing a Cougar punt on the initial possession of the game, Pike would score twice on two consecutive plays. Austin Ingram would score on a 67-yard run on fourth and 11 on Crenshaw’s next play where he intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards to the end zone.

Pike used its lead to substitute freely. Eight different Patriots would carry the ball in the game. Drew Starling, Jeffery Saunders, Rush Hixon, Coleby Roberts, Murphy Renfroe, Hayes Lee and John David Cox would combine for 152 yards on 22 carries including touchdown runs of 65 and 59 yards by Hixon and Renfroe, respectively.

The Pike Lib offense would total 246 yards on the ground while the Patriot defense allowed only 15 total yards on 24 Cougar attempts.

Led by Starling with seven tackles, the defense harassed the opposing ball carries in the back field all night totaling 12 tackles for loss. Kevin Boling, Trey Davis and Bailey Renfroe tallied four tackles each, while C.J. Allen and Conner Wood added three apiece.

The Patriots (2-1) return home, after a two-week road trip, to face the Lakeside Chiefs in Troy Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m
