For those in the know about Christian music, the name Kevin Derryberry will ring a bell.

For the others, the first experience with Derryberry will be one they will not soon forget, said the Rev. Don Hatcher, pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church in Troy.

Derryberry, a Christian music evangelist, worship leader, recording artist, singer and song writer, will be in concert at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Hephzibah Baptist Church and the public is invited.”

“The Kevin Derryberry concert will be an inspirational time of hearing a person who was caught up in the values of the world system,” Hatcher said. “These values, which Kevin embraced, were taking him on a downward spiral. There are many people in Pike County, churched and unchurched, whose lives are controlled by a value system that is not acceptable to God.”

Hatcher said that, through Derryberry’s testimony of how God delivered him for a downward spiral, others will be able to see that God can deliver anyone, no matter now caught up in the world system or the world’s way of doing things they are.

“There was a big void in Kevin’s life and he tried to fill that void with rock music and other things,” Hatcher said. “But it was not until Kevin came into a personal relationship with Christ that he found what he was seeking. His life was revolutionized. His values changed and he found hope for the future.”

Hatcher said it is his desire that those who attend the Sept. 21 concert will see the change that has occurred in Derryberry’s life.

“And it is also my desire that Kevin’s testimony and his songs will be a reflection of the hope he has found in Christ,” he said. “Kevin’s message is for all ages. His message of deliverance and hope is for adults as well as young people.”

For 20 years, Derryberry was the lead singer and keyboard player for Telluride, a secular band that was popular in the South. He has opened for and performed with Jimmy Buffet, ZZ Top, Charlie Daniels, Marshal Tucker Band, Roseanne Cash, Cheap Trick, The Blue Travelers and members of the Allman Brothers and the Rolling Stones.

More recently he has performed with Casting Crowns, 4 Him, The Newsboys, Chris Tomlin, Toby Mac and Third Day. He has done crusades, camps and conferences with Franklin Graham, Scott Dawson, Dave Edwards, Josh McDowell, David Nassar and many others.

Derryberry was a part of the Billy Graham final crusade in New York City in 2005. He has released six contemporary Christian rock CDs.

Admission to the Kevin Derryberry Concert at Hephzibah Baptist Church is free. No love offering will be taken and everyone is invited.
