TUSKEGEE — Business as usual has been the motto for the Charles Henderson Trojans for quite some time. Friday night’s game at Booker T. Washington was just that, business as usual.

“In the first half, we were real happy with our opening drive,” Trojan quarterback KD Edenfield said.

The Trojans (3-0, AHSAA 5A Region 2, 2-0) first drive started with five consecutive handoffs to Jawara White that gained the Trojans 30 yards. Edenfield ripped off an 18-yard run on the ensuing play, and four plays later White got the ball again for an 8-yard touchdown run.

The Trojans defense came out and responded, in fact they never quit responding. Henderson held the Golden Eagles (1-2, Region 2, 0-2) to just under 30 yards in the first half.

“Defensively we played good tonight,” Trojan head coach Hugh Fountain said.

The Trojans played a close game until they punched in a touchdown just before the half.

The Trojan defense forced the Golden Eagles to punt, and they gave the offense 1:36 left on the clock to get some points on the board.

Time wasn’t a factor for the Trojans starting from their own 44-yard line. Ahmaad Brantley came in and ripped two quick runs worth 24 yards and Edenfield hit Corey Dennis in between the one and three that make the number on his jersey for a 31-yard touchdown pass.

“It wasn’t a designed play,” Edenfield said. “He just ran that route. It feels good to know we’re on the same page.”

Dennis battled Edenfield hard for the starting quarterback role during the off-season, but Dennis settled in at receiver just fine when it was evident the quarterback battle came to a close.

“It feels real good to know I have a quarterback that is reliable,” Dennis said. “I can go downfield and he’ll hit me on the money.”

The Trojans took a 14-0 lead into the half, and came out and scored on the opening drive of the second half.

The eight-play, 80-yard drive ended with an 8-yard touchdown run from Jawara White. A blocked extra-point attempt left the Trojans with a 20-point lead.

“Our success tonight can be attributed to our offensive line,” Fountain said. “They dominated the line of scrimmage.”

The Trojans found themselves inside the Washington one-yard line to start the fourth quarter. The Trojans got the ball on the Washington 30-yard line after Steve Baker recovered a Golden Eagles fumble.

Edenfield pushed his way behind center into the end zone to make the Trojans lead 27-0 with 11:57 left in the game.

Washington finally saw a sign of life on their next drive with a 45-yard kickoff return. Washington gained 20 yards and an extra 15 came from a pass interference call against Henderson.

James Darrius punched in a 13-yard touchdown for the Golden Eagles to get them on the scoreboard for the first time since their season opener.

Henderson fumbled the ball on their next drive, and Washington was back in business.

The Golden Eagles managed to score again on a JaQuavius Cox touchdown reception worth nine yards. The Golden Eagles nailed a two-point conversion making the score 27-14.

The Trojans still had the game in tact however, and Corey Dennis took the helm at quarterback. Dennis ripped a 44-yard touchdown run to seal victory for the Trojans with 2:20 left in the game. The Trojans lead was 34-14, and the final score of the ballgame.

“We did a lot of good things offensively tonight,” Fountain said. “We got a lot of production from a lot of different guys.”

Jawara White led the Trojans rushing attack with 127 yards and two touchdowns. Corey Dennis rushed for 66 yards. He had a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Billy Neal added 53 yards, LeQuintez Reynolds added 52 yards and Ahmaad Brantley added 27 yards.

The Trojans face Valley on the road next week.
