Mr. Brown was born December 3, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama. After high school he attended Birmingham Southern College, studying engineering. He enlisted in the Army on April 24, 1942. He was part of the 75th Infantry Division: Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland. He was a Communication Specialist. He was a proud American and proud of his service record to his country. After the service on January 6, 1945 he married his wife Margaret. He then attended and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for South Alabama Electric Cooperative in Troy for more than 25 years. He then started his service with Talquin Electric Cooperative on May 6, 1974 as Director of Engineering Services in the electric department.
At Talquin, Marvin as was called, quickly made many new friends who in his own words, “made me feel welcome.” It was easy working with and befriending Marvin because he was so easy to get along with and absorbed the Engineering Department duties easily. After about 13 years of employment at Talquin, Mr. Brown ended his years of service on December 31, 1987. He later served as a consultant. He will be missed by his Talquin Electric family. He was also a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Louise Brown of Havana; one daughter, Clare Louise Davis-Roth of Havana; one granddaughter, Bonnye Elizabeth Westphal (and her husband, Wayne) of Havana; two great-grandchildren, Logan Richard Westphal and Kenneth Wayne Westphal; one brother, G.B. Brown of Birmingham and one sister, Anita Brown May of Birmingham.
