Construction at the railroad crossing on U.S. 231 north in Troy will cause some disruption to traffic in coming days and motorists are advised to drive with care.

Workers on Wednesday began tearing down the signals and lights at the railroad crossing near Soundsations on U.S. 231. New signals and lights will begin installaltion today, said Train Master Mark Stephens with Gulf and Ohio Railways.

“There’s going to be minimal traffic delays,” Stephens said. “People should drive with caution and watch out. Taking an alternate route wouldn’t be a bad idea.”

Work on the project is expected to continue through Sept. 22, Stephens said.

Troy police will assist as needed with traffic control, said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

“We’re going to be there when they need us to make sure traffic flows safely and t0 make sure there is minimum disruption to traffic,” Scarbrough said.
