Katie Wiggins has ice water rolling through her veins.

The Pike Liberal Arts School junior nailed a kill to put her team up 16-15 in the final game Monday against Macon-East and drilled an ace on the next play to clinch the 3-2 (25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 14-25, 17-15) win for the Lady Patriots.

“The whole adrenaline rush is great,” Wiggins said. “I love having that pressure on me.”

PLAS head coach Mendy Avant said she is glad to have Wiggins on her side of the net.

“Katie can step it up,” Avant said. “She is amazing out there and she has gotten a lot more aggressive this year. She was great for us today.”

Wiggins had five kills, five service aces and one block in the match, but two kills in the final set.

Pike (3-1, 3-1 AISA AA, Region 1 East) had 23 kills, 10 aces and four blocks as a team in the match.

Junior Josie Griffin led the charge with nine kills in the match for Pike. She added three aces.

“I love my team and I could not do it without them,” Griffin said. “We played so good in the first two games, but then we let up, but we fought back and that was great. I was praying every play in that last game.”

Senior Allison Linton had six kills, one ace and three blocks.

Pike rolled through the first game, 25-16, squeezed out the second game 25-22, dropped the next two games, 25-17 and 25-14 and pulled out the final game, 17-15.

They trailed 12-8 in the final game before railing off nine points to Macon-East’s three.

“We knew Macon-East was going to not give up and we were able to come back and get that final game,” Avant said. “They (Macon-East) are a well-coached team and they showed us a great match.”

Avant said the overall play of the team was outstanding and she was glad to see all seven girls who rotated in play well.

“Allison has been great for us and Genevieve Teel was setting the ball great,” Avant said. “All seven of them out there did wonderful and I am so proud of them.”

Pike heads to Greenville for a matchup with Fort Dale today at 3:30 p.m.
