Lenial Travis Rose

Lenial &uot;Travis&uot; Rose passed peacefully on January 29, 2008.

Born in Troy, AL in 1924, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and was a decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.

He also served diligently during the Cuban Missile Crisis, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

During this time, he met the love of his life, Helen, and married her on June 17, 1950.

They had four children and finally settled inMantau, NJ to raise their family.

After leaving active duty in 1964 he continued working in the service of his country on the retrofit of the Battleship New Jersey at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard and the Naval Air Propulsion Center in Trenton for 12 years.

Upon retiring in 1979, he enjoyed spending time with his family, growing vegetables in his garden, fishing, his Shelties and vacationing in Panama City,FL.

He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc. and Lawson-Cox Post #7679.

Beloved husband of 57 years to Helen R. (nee Figurski), he is also the devoted father of Linda A. Slater (Terry) ofWilliamstown, NJ Edward T. Rose (Jackie) of Deptford, NJ and Thomas W. Rose (Rhonda) of Jacksonville, FL., loving grandfather of Danny, Dave, Tommy, Andy, Chris, and Katie and great grandfather of Jenna, dear brother of Dorothy Murray of Ozark, Peggy Allen of Troy and Jim Rose of Dothan, AL; he was also pre-deceased by his daughter Rosemary Rose, brother, Wilson Rose and his parents, Chester L. Rose and Minnie Dale nee McCall.

Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park with Father Eamon Miley officiating on Monday, February 4, 2008 at10:00 AM with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington.
