David G. Holmes

A Memorial service for David G. Holmes, 68, of Troy, who died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Baptist South in Montgomery, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy with Dr. Ellis Bush and the Rev. Otis Derrah officiating with full military rites by Charlie's Angels with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Holmes was born August 21, 1938, in Pike County. He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also was a member of the Gideons International and the Brundidge Rotary Club. Mr. Holmes was a graduate of the Jones Law School and practiced law in Pike County for many years. In his later years, he was a cattle farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Irene Brown Holmes, and a sister, Betty Holmes Botts.

Survivors include sons and wife, David and Susan Holmes of Mobile and Brent Holmes of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Heather Holmes Gulledge of Troy; sister, Juanita Holmes Bush of Troy; grandchildren, Audrey and Jacob Holmes of Mobile, Kyri Holmes, Tony Holmes and Lauren Gulledge, all of Troy; step-grandchildren, Brian Gulledge and Chelsea Gulledge of Eufaula; mother of his children, Rosalyn Connor Holmes of Brundidge; and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideons, Brundidge Rotary Club and the Betty Dykes Sunday School Class.
