Malcom Dickey

Funeral services for Malcom Dickey, 56 of Troy, who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Troy Regional Medical Center, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Southside Baptist Church in Troy, with the Revs. Bo Weed and John Clark officiating.

Burial followed at Green Hills Memorial Park with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Visitation was held from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There also was a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clyde Dickey.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Dickey of Troy; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Stephen Whittington; son and daughter-in-law, David and Britt Dickey of Troy; grandchildren, Reid and Jordan Dickey; sisters, Ruby (Doug) McLeod, Pauline (Bobby) Catrett, Shelia Lewis, Lois Thrash and Mary Peck; brother, Jerry (Clovia) Dickey; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bryant Senn, Randy Rushing, Dwight Ward, Johnny Miller, Ben Smith and Mike Mabray. Members of the Sanders Lead Construction crew served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Southside Baptist Church of Troy building fund.

Robert L. (Bob) Singleton Sr.

Funeral services for Robert L. Singleton Sr., 71, formerly of Troy, who died Feb.14, 2007, at his home were at 3 p.m. Friday at Banks Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Bill Barksdale, Lem Griffin and Bill Copeland officiating.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Visitation was from 6 pm. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Singleton was born in Troy in 1935 and lived in Albany and Sylvester for many years. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Ga., Grand Chapter of Ga., the Royal Arch Masons, the Hason Shriners Temple in Albany and Troy and Lodge # 56 F & AM.

Mr. Singleton was formerly employed with Colonial Baking Company for 20 years and then Arnold Bread Company for 35 years as a self-employed independent operator.

He was affiliated with the Baptist Church.

His parents were Sam S. and Sarah Starling Singleton.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Aultman Singleton of Sylvester, Ga.; son, Robert L. Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Pelham, Ga.; daughter and her husband, Vikki and Bill Singleton of Baconton, Ga..; sister and her husband, Betty S. and Fred Walters of Troy; stepsons and their wives, Steve and Becky Gill of Tifton, Ga., and Glenn and Regina Gill of Sylvester; stepgrandchildren, Joseph Gill, Stephanie Gill and Michael Gill; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Stan Johnson, Maurice Wiggins, Bob Tedrick, Solomon Womack, Freddie Walters and Bennie Lunsford.

Honorary pallbearers were Masons.

Emma L. Dease

Funeral services for Emma L. Dease, 84, of Troy, who died Sun., Feb.18, 2007, at Troy Health and Rehabilitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Revs. Earl Oakes and Donnie Dunn officiating.

Burial will be in Sandfield Cemetery under the direction of Skeen Funeral Home of Troy.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dease was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Pike County. She was a retired textile worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Leslie Jordan Coffield; several brothers; and a son-in-law, Jim Donnelly.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Dease of Troy; son, Bubba Dease of Troy; daughter, Helen Donnelly of Troy; four grandchildren, Kenny Grissett of Wetumpka, Jan Fritz of Honolulu, Hawaii, Kendall Grissett of Spring Hill and Jason Dease of Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Carolanne Banks of Spring Hill, Kendra Grissett of Enterprise, Dwight Banks of Spring Hill and Elizabeth Dease of Minnesota; sisters, Dorothy Dease of Banks and Jessie Pittman of Troy; and a brother, Genie Coffield of Eufaula.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Calhoun, Leo Calhoun, J.D. Calhoun, George Jordan, Jim Coffield and Andrew Green.

Mary Walters Scherf

Graveside services for Mary Walters Scherf, 96, who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in Pensacola, Fla., at Haven of Our Lady of Peace, where she lived since 2002, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Troy. She was the daughter of Minnie Darby Walters and James W. Walters of Troy.

Mrs. Scherf was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wallace and John; sisters, Lucy W. Allen, Minnie W. Bick, Jeannette W. Miley and Jamie W. Chambers.

She was the dearly loved mother of Joyce Renfroe Hamil of Carrollton, Ga., Jake Renfroe of Pensacola, Gail Renfroe Lamar of Auburn, Betty Renfroe Albritton of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Esther G. Scherf of Santa Clara, N.M. She also is survived by 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and first cousin, Annette Hollis of Banks. She was the stepmother of Amy Scherf Gregory, Dodie Scherf Glowa, Terry Scherf and Aurelia Scherf Donald and was the first wife of J. W. Renfroe of Troy and widow of Paul W. Scherf, to whom she was married for 48 years.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bo Hamil, Greg Hamil, Geoff Hamil, Gary Hamil, Jake Renfroe III, Bill Renfroe and Lee Young Lamar Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia, Covenant Hospice of Pensacola or the charity of your choice.

Louise Beard Calhoun

Funeral services for Louise Beard Calhoun, 96, of Troy, who died in Troy on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with Elder Scott Sexton officiating.

Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. Calhoun; her parents, John Jefferson and Nettie King Beard; four sisters, Ina (Lehman) Drinkard, Irene (Lester) Richburg, Julia (Curry) Johnson and Hazel (Jimmy L.) Pouncey; two brothers, Lawton (Martha) Beard and Roy (Gladys) Beard; and a daughter-in-law, Aloma Massey Calhoun.

She is survived by two sons, John C. (Jewell) Calhoun of Powell, Tenn., and William R. (Margarette) Calhoun of Troy; sister, Mary Edna (Sanders) Shirley of Goodhope; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
