Shelton Pinkerton

Shelton Pinkerton, D.V.M., 80, of Pensacola, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, after a brief illness.

Dr. Pinkerton was born in Georgiana on April 1, 1926, and graduated from Georgiana High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Pinkerton; brother, Cecil Q. Pinkerton; and sister, Estelle Stringer.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. (Dot) Pinkerton; daughter, Sharon Pinkerton; son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Carolyn Pinkerton; granddaughter, Lauren Pinkerton; brothers-in-law, Homer and Sally Reeves and George and Louise Reeves; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Pinkerton was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in Europe.

He received his B.S. and D.V.M. degrees from Auburn University. Dr. Pinkerton practiced veterinary medicine in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze for many years. After graduating from Auburn University, Dr. Pinkerton began his veterinary practice in 1954 in Troy.

He was very active in his profession and served as president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, president of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association and in additional capacities in the World Veterinary Association.

He was honored as Veterinarian of the Year in the state of Florida and is a distinguished alumnus of Auburn University. He played a role in the establishment of the Veterinary Medical College at the University of Florida.

Visitation was held on Jan. 18 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola with a private graveside service at Bayview Memorial Park.

Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
