Dr. James Abner &#8220Jack” Brantley

Dr. James Abner &#8220Jack” Brantley 92, a native of Troy, Alabama, passed away

peacefully at his home on Monday, July 31, 2006.

He dedicated his life to caring for others.Visitation will be Thursday, August 3, 2006 from 5:00

PM until 7:00 PM and Friday, August 4, 2006 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

The funeral service will be held at

Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11:00 AM

with Dr. Ellis Bush and Rev. Mark Wilson officiating.

Interment will follow at Greenhills Cemetery in Troy.

Survivors include his children: Julia Wiley Brantley White, Troy, Alabama;

Philip Jernigan Brantley (Sondra),Knoxville, Tennessee; Jacqueline Brantley Floyd (Jerry),Troy, Alabama; Neal Kemp Brantley, Montgomery, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Linda Brantley, Troy, Alabama; a brother, Robert Murphree Brantley, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sister-in-law, Merle Jernigan, Troy, Alabama; eleven grandchildren: Hunter Parker White Jr. (Kris),Montgomery, Alabama; Lucas Marshall White (Julie),Birmingham, Alabama; pediatrician Dr. Elizabeth Brantley Diebel (Chuck), Montgomery, Alabama; Matthew Wade White (Angie), Auburn, Alabama; James Abner White (Karen), Destin, Florida; James Scott Brantley, Troy, Alabama; Andrew Reid Brantley, Troy, Alabama; Paul Wiley Brantley(Jennifer), Birmingham, Alabama; Elizabeth Brantley Lewis (Robert), Birmingham, Alabama; Daniel Asher Brantley (Pauline),Los Angeles, California; Patrick Francis Brantley, Charleston, South Carolina; and fourteen

great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jane Jernigan Brantley, his son, internist Dr. James Coleman &#8220Buddy” Brantley, brothers Oliver Wiley Pi” (Betty) Brantley and Thomas Kirven (Dorothy) Brantley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Hugh and Ann McKinnon, sister-in-law, Olivia Brantley, and brother-in-law, Fred Jernigan, Jr.

Born August 27, 1914, Jack Brantley was the oldest of four sons of Julia

Lamar Wiley and Jim Tom Brantley.

Raised in Troy on Murphree Street, he graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1940, and was commissioned into the

U.S. Navy Medical Corps, later qualifying as Flight Surgeon. As a Navy

doctor assigned to the Marine Corps, he served seven years in the Pacific Theater in WWII attaining the rank of Commander.

He moved his family back

to Troy in 1946 and established a medical practice, working out of his

office and making house calls around the clock. He delighted in delivering

babies, bringing new life into the world. He served as physician for the

Atlantic Coast Line railroad, and served as Vice President of the Medical

Association of Alabama.

In 1956, he built the first free-standing architecturally designed doctor's office in Pike County.

In 1973, he was joined in practice by his son, Dr. J. C. &#8220Buddy” Brantley.

After retiring in 1990 at age 76, he turned the practice over to his son but continued to communicate with former patients and friends.

&#8220Dr. Jack” was renowned for his compassion and kindness to people from every walk of life.

Pallbearers will be grandsons; Honorary pallbearers will be the membership of Calvary Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center, Inc., P.O. Box 863, Troy, AL.

Emory Thomas, 77, of Goshen, died at his home, Monday, July 31, 2006. Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Thursday, August 3, 2006

from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 3:30 PM with Reverend David Zorn and Reverend W.O. Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Elam Cemetery, in Goshen. The family request that memorials be made to Wiregrass Hospice of Troy. The pallbearers are Blake Thomas, Chris Thomas, Russ Thomas, Joey Jackson, Tim Brooks, and James Sims. Survivors include, Wife, Katherine Thomas of Goshen, Sons, Michael K. Thomas and wife, Sally of Goshen, Larry D. Thomas, and Russell D. Thomas and wife, Jodi, Daughter, Melony R. Thomas, Grandchildren, Christopher M. Thomas and wife, Angie, Tammy Thomas Jackson and husband, Joey, Jennifer Thomas Brooks and husband, Tim, Meagan Thomas, Blake Thomas, Russ Thomas, and Katie Thomas, Great grandchildren, Trent Thomas, Anna Grace Thomas, Joelee Marie Jackson, and
