Mrs. Sarah Jo Shirley, 69, of Webb died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, with her family by

her side at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Ashford with Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Ashford directing. Officiating will be the Rev. Todd Thorpe and Rev. Bill Hand. Visitation will held Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ashford. The interment will immediately follow the service at Ashford City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Shirley's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Home Oil Company.

She was born on June 29, 1936, in Covington County.

She was the secretary and treasurer of Home Oil Company from 1966 to the present. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Ashford for the past 15 years. She also served as secretary and treasurer of the church. She was a member of the Ashford Bridge Club. She was always known for her craft work and especially known for her Christmas village she proudly displayed each year at her residence.

She will be best remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.H. Anderson and Thelma Snead Anderson; a daughter, Melanie Joy Shirley; and a son, Michael Shirley.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Thomas A. Shirley of Ashford; a daughter, Dawn Johnson and husband (Ronnie) of Ashford; two sons, Tim Shirley and wife (Debbie) of Dothan, and Andy Shirley and wife (Cecilia) of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Nikki Cochran and husband (Adam), Brian Johnson, Lindsay Shirley, Dustin Shirley, Ryan Shirley, Craig Shirley and Brandon Shirley; two great-grandchildren, Bailee and Brant Cochran; brother-in-law, Fred and Josephine Shirley; sister-in-law, Peggy and Stan Blair and Janette and Harold Meads; several cousins and special friends Addie, Moe and Rosie.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ashford Building Fund.
