Charles Mervin King

The funeral service for Charles Mervin King, 86, of Albany who died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Palmyra Nursing Home will be conducted Tuesday, at 11 a.m. (CST) at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Pike County (five miles west of Troy off Highway 29.). Rev. Wayne Locklar and Mr. Bill King will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Pike County, Mr. King had resided in Albany since 1958, moving here from Macon, Georgia. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a business degree and for a a number of years worked with Sears & Roebuck as Store Controller. He was the retired owner/operator of Maryland Fried Chicken, an avid golfer and former member of the Optimist Club in Birmingham. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. King was preceded in death by a son, David Mervin King.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Carter King of Albany; a son, Richard Carter King of Albany; a daughter, Angela King Brock of Oakfield, Georgia; two brothers, Curtis King and Bill King of Troy; a sister, Helen King Furlow of Walnut Creek, California; six grandchildren; Scott Charles Renfroe, Jason Lee Renfroe, Richard Luther King, Kimberly Renfroe Alford, Joshua Carter King and Courtney Garrison King and three great-grandchildren, Jacob William Alford, Laurel Ansley Renfroe and Jenna Kayley Alford.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
