The Goody's Third Annual Kid's Day on Saturday couldn't come at a better time for last minute back-to-school shoppers.

The day promises something for every member of the family from activities for small children to sales on those "must have" fashions for the new school year.

Jeff Kelsey, a key carrier (or shift manager) for the Goody's in Troy said the Troy Police Department and the Troy Public Library will be at Goody's on Saturday with special activities for children.

"The Troy Police Department will be here from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. doing the Identikid program," Kelsey said. "It's a program where kids can get their fingerprints."

The library will also be there from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with books and activities for the children.

"My Teen Board will be there reading to the children as their mothers shop," children's librarian Teresa Colvin said.

"We'll also have other activities like word finds and coloring sheets."

Colvin also hopes the Teen Board's presence will show the importance of reading aloud to children.

"That's some of the best quality time parents can spend with their children," she said. "I don't think parents sometimes realize how important that is."

Goody's will also sponsor a "Design Your Own Dress" contest for children up to 8-years-old.

The children will be able to design a dress collar; the three best collars will be produced and sold in Goody's stores next summer. The three winners will receive a $500 U.S. savings bond, a $100 Goody's gift card and recognition as the collar designer on the tag of each dress.

Parents won't be left out, though. Goody's will give free gifts all day with purchases from the children's department. Also, with the purchase of a children's Levi product, parents will receive a "Kidentification" voucher for a free child's I.D. card.
