Lexie Aldridge said she tries to always "look to God" and have a positive outlook on life.

"I think that if you have a good spirit about you than people will see that," she said.

The children who come into the Troy Public Library everyday where she works can definitely see it.

The children's librarian Teresa Colvin said Aldridge never complains and is cheerful about her work.

Aldridge has worked in the children's library for a year and three months, but before that she was volunteer. Her cheerful attitude and willingness to help is what landed her the job.

"You could say she volunteered herself into job," Colvin said.

Aldridge's time at the library began when she was in high school and needed 75 hours of community service to graduate. Now, the Troy State University sophomore said her job duties aren't too different. She just gets paid to do them.

She reads to the children, helps with the summer reading program, shelves books, cuts out craft projects for the children and helps compile the list of Accelerated Reader books.

Although undecided now, Aldridge said her experience with the children in the library have steered her towards child psychology.

"At first I didn't really know," she said. "But now that I've had first hand experience, I like working with children."

She thought about teaching, but she couldn't picture herself still doing it 20 years down the road.

"My mom's a teacher so I've learned from her experiences," she said. "I just don't think I'd still be enjoying that down the road. Teaching today might not be the same 20 or 25 years from now."

But she still wants to be involved with children.

"I like seeing that children get the help that they need," she said.
