TABL Marlins take two games in season opener

The Troy Marlins swept the season opener double-header Sunday in Troy Amateur Baseball League action.
The Marlins defeated the Luverne Braves in the first game 8-3.
The Braves drew first blood with a three-run homer by Desmond Chambers in the first inning. That Marlins answered back in the second inning with a two-run homer by Fred Holland, a single by Terrance Boyd, a double by Matt Floyd and a single by Brian McLendon – scoring five runs to make the score 5-3.
The Marlins scored another run in the third inning on a solo home run by Matt Floyd.
The Marlins added two more runs in the fifth inning, a two-run homer by Terrance Boyd, to make the final score 8-3.
Matt Floyd was the winning pitcher for the Marlins, and relief pitcher Brock Keith pitched the final 2.5 innings, striking out five batters.
Wayne Weeks pitched for the Braves.
The second game matched the Marlins with the Troy Pirates.
In game two, the Pirates took a 2-0 lead on a Jeremy Barbaree two-run homer in the first inning.
the Marlins came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more runs on a two-run double by Brent Newman to put the Marlins ahead 4-2.
The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of third to take a 6-4 lead on a bases-loaded single by Garrett King.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Marlins ripped off four runs on a Brent Newman bases-loaded single, putting them ahead 8-6.
Willie Jones came on in relief of Jason Barron with the bases loaded and no outs to pitch out of a jam with a stellar save. Donnie Barron was the Pirate pitcher.

TABL games are played on Sunday afternoons at Frazier Field at 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.
