Tournaments give Troy chance to show best

Over the course of the next several weeks, Troy will be host to several tournaments at the SportsPlex, and those events give us a golden opportunity not only to support our teams playing in those tournaments, but to show off what's best about Troy and Pike County.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith, thousands of people will enter the gates to watch four tournaments – one of which is taking place now.

While those people can provide a significant impact for local retailers, restaurants and hotels, they can also provide us all an opportunity to be good ambassadors for our community.

Many of those who will attend the tournaments may, in all likelihood, never have visited our community if it wasn't for the game. While they are here, we should all join together and give them a reason to come back to Troy to visit.

We applaud the Parks and Recreation Department's efforts to recruit these events. They are a vital part of our sports program, and further showcase the professionalism and high-quality facilities that have become Troy's trademarks.

To our home-team players, we extend our best wishes for good luck.
