Probate Judge Bill Stone swore Wayne Wilson into office as the new mayor of Banks Tuesday afternoon at the Pike County Courthouse.

Wilson's wife Lynn was there to witness the ceremony.

After long-time mayor Larry Henderson's death, Wilson, who was mayor pro-tem, filled in for the beloved leader. Now, he will finish out Henderson's term as the official mayor of Banks.

"They asked me if I would be willing to finish out the term until next summer," Wilson said.

At that time, Wilson said there will be an election for a new mayor. If he would like to continue with the job, Wilson will have to run for election.

Wilson and his wife have lived in Banks for 14 years and don't have any immediate plans of changing that. They both love the community and the people and he said serving them is an honor.

"I feel like it's a real privilege," Wilson said. "We've lived there 14 years and we really enjoy that community."

Wilson said the community and the town council are "still trying to overcome the shock" of Henderson's death, but Wilson said he has no intention to change the projects Henderson started.

"We're going to continue to finish the things he started when he was mayor," Wilson said. "He had been mayor so long and we feel like he did a good job."

Though he admits to feeling overwhelmed, he said the town council and the community have been nothing but helpful. And his wife couldn't be anymore supportive of his new position.

"He's going to do a real good job," she said. "He's been involved with the council as a member and he's always been real active with them."
