Dixie Boys 13-year-old team heads to finals

Luverne – In game two of the 13-year-old tournament, Troy defeated Luverne in a long hard fought battle by a score of 15-4.

Leading the way for Troy were several players with two runs apiece: Jonathan Wade, Drew Vaughan, David Williams, and Sam Jones.

Notching one run each were Russell Osborne, Jace Colley, Ryan Williamson, Dustin Smith, Darrell Reynolds, Paul McIlwain and Jeremy McGuire.

For Luverne it was Jalon Wallace, Royal Knighten, David Rhodes and Matthew Holmes each crossing the plate once.

The fourth game of the series had Troy hosting Greenville in the 13-year-old age bracket, and both teams played a long night of defense on the field.

In the end, only two players came in home, and both were from Troy. The two scoring runners were Ryan Williamson and Aaron Allen.

With the win Troy gets a bye on Monday night, while Greenville will host Dothan American – both of these teams come into the match with a 1-1 tournament record. Game play begins at 7 p.m.

Elsewhere in the tournament, the Greenville 13-year-old Dixie All-Stars defeated Dothan American's All-Stars on Friday night in game one of the tournament, by a score of 12-1 in five innings of play.

Leading the score for Greenville was shortstop Blake Mullins and third baseman Justin Tutchtone each with three runs, followed by pitcher Casey Weston with two runs.

Davis Watts, Hunter Paul, Brandon Croley and Bobby Martin each crossed the plate once.

For Dothan American, Damen Whipple made the lone score after a series of singles brought him in.

On Saturday night, the 13-year-olds from Dothan outscored the Luverne team to take the win and stay alive in game three of the double-elimination tournament, with a score of 12-2.

For Dothan Damen Whipple led the scoring with three runs, followed by Alex Fuller and Richard Masilla with two runs each.

Then it was Chase Finch, Dustin Ward, Drew Benton, Will Owens and Hampton Skipper with one run apiece.

For Luverne Davis Lester and Brock Free each scored one run.

Troy will play in the championship today at 7 p.m.

Dothan and Greenville played each other Monday night to determine Troy's opponent, but the score was not available at press time.

If Troy wins, the team will automatically advance to the district tournament in Eufaula.

If Troy loses tonight, the teams will play again Wednesday night in Luverne at 7 p.m. The winner of that game would then head to Eufaula for the district tournament.

The district tournament is scheduled for July 4.
