Speeders better beware in and around Troy this weekend as law enforcement steps up its traffic control for the Memorial Day weekend that begins Friday.

Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage said extra enforcement efforts will focus on speeders, individuals running red lights, impaired drivers, checking for seatbelt use and liability insurance coverage.

"I'd urge everyone to observe traffic laws and enjoy the Memorial Day weekend," he said.

"We're not participating in the 'Click It or Ticket' campaign as such, but we will be out there in force during the weekend for the safety of everyone," Everage said.

Alabama State Troopers have launched Click It or Ticket, and initiative aimed at safety belt and child restraint enforcement. Troopers are also involved in Buckle Up America Week.

Troopers will exercise a "zero tolerance" policy, ticketing all who violate state safety restraint laws, and will be aggressively enforcing speed limit, DUI and other traffic laws, according to a statement from public safety director Mike Coppage.

Everage said drivers must have a current drivers license with them when operating a vehicle and a copy of the tag receipt and liability insurance card for that vehicle.
