It took an extra week, but the Business and Industry Appreciation Golf Tournament finally took place Monday.

The tournament, originally scheduled for April 7, was played Monday with slightly fewer participants. The original tournament would have included 94 players, but the rainout forced a few cancellations. The tournament went off with 82 players Monday.

"We probably raised $5,000 to $7,000 for the Chamber with this event," said Alton Starling, the tournament director. "We try to have four small fund raisers through the year, and together they help keep the Chamber from raising dues."

Although Starling was estimating the proceeds, Chamber director Jennifer Barner said the exact totals would be available later this week.

The four-person scramble competition ended with a victory for Troy's mayor. Jimmy Lunsford and his teammates Bob Mills, Lon Simpson and Gary Gutherie shot a 52.

The team took home the low-gross victory. The team won $350 in prize money but donated it back to the Chamber.

The low-net victory went to a team who only finished one stroke back in the low-gross competition. Ashley Floyd, Steve Spivey, Tony Hudson and Jim Jackson shot a 53 gross and barely missed winning the low-gross title. The team had a low net of 41.19.

The team of Layne Wise, Paul Hudson, Lyle Wise and Johnny Law took home second place in the low-gross contest and Chuck Ingram, Will Mills, Matt Vaughan, Paul Watkins and Shelby Tuck took home second in the low-net contest.

Jeff Railey was closest to the hole on No. 8, Stevie Sauls on No. 12, Dianne Mills on 14 and Ken Artega on 17.

While no one was able to cash in on the hole-in-one competition, Pam Stoud won the competition for longest drive by a woman on hole 1 and Jim Jackson took home the men's prize on hole 10.
