One week ago, Martin Berry and Marlycia Lewis were crowned Pike County High School's 2003 Prom King and Queen. The light blue and silver decorations, soft lighting and sequined dresses helped their Prom, titled "A Moment Like This," a moment to remember.

"Everything fell together perfectly," said Barbara Whatley, who helped coordinate the event.

"When the spotlight fell on the gates on the stage for walk out, everything looked wonderful."

Every weekend this month, another high school will have a moment of their own.

For some, it will be the last one they share with their classmates before graduation.

Charles Henderson High School senior Mary Bassett said that, although she isn't sad about this Saturday's prom being her last, but because it will be her last with friends.

"I'm really not that sad," she said about her last prom night.

"I'm just sad that it will be the last time to be with my friends."

Like so many other juniors and seniors, Bassett has an eventful night planned.

First, she and her friends will meet for a quiet dinner in one of the conference rooms at Troy Bank and Trust, courtesy of a friend of hers.

Bassett said others will eat in one of the ballrooms at the Adams Center.

Then, they will ride together to spend an evening in "Paris by Moonlight."

With black, blue and silver decorations fashioned under the direction of art teacher Pam Smith, it promises to be a fun and romantic atmosphere.

"I am really looking forward to it," Bassett said.

"I think this year is going to be a lot of fun."

Afterward, her mom will cook breakfast for the couples in Bassett's party.

Pike Liberal Arts School juniors will host a prom sure to please any party-goer.

On Friday, April 26, PLA juniors and seniors will "Laissez les Bon Tent Rouler," or "Let the Good Times Roll," which is the official theme of Mardi Gras.

True to the theme, PLA will be decked out in purple, green and gold.

"I think it's going to be a lot of fun," said prom coordinator Beth Murphy.

"We hired a band from Atlanta called Urban Cowboys. They're supposed to be very good."

Goshen High School has their prom slated for Saturday, April 19.

As if they were anticipating April's unusually cold whether, they chose "Tropical Paradise" for their theme.

With tropical colors and sights transforming their cafeteria, GHS juniors and seniors are sure to have fun.
