Both Patriot teams tried to come back late in their games Tuesday against Macon-East, but both failed to find success.

The Pike Liberal Arts School baseball team (8-2) outscored Macon-East 6-2 after the first two innings, but that rally was not enough to secure the win after a disastrous first two innings. Macon-East rattled Pike Lib's first two pitchers for 11 runs in the first and second innings to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Macon-East held on for a 13-6 win.

On the lower field, Pike Liberal Arts School's softball team spotted Macon-East a 7-0 lead by the fourth inning before trying a valiant comeback. Pike Lib fell short, losing 8-6.

The baseball team struggled from the outset. Patriot pitcher Andrew Folmar lasted only two-thirds of an inning while allowing six runs. Dale Garrett lasted until the end of the second but allowed five runs. Pike Lib found itself down 11-0 quickly.

Macon-East scored again in the top of the third to gain its largest advantage at 12-0. Pike Lib plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead by a third.

Luke Sanders hit a one-out double and later came around to score the Patriots' first run. Justin Sims, Brandon Hooks and Drew Kilpatrick all scored in the inning.

Macon-East scored its final run of the game in the fourth inning to push the lead back up to 13-4.

PLAS answered that run in the bottom of the inning when Sanders scored on a Hooks double to left center.

Neither team scored again until the Patriots pushed their final run across in the bottom of the seventh. Sims led off with a

single and managed to score on an RBI ground out by Hooks.

The girls stumbled out the gate as well. Macon-East scored two runs in the first inning and added five in the fourth.

Pike Lib scored three in the fourth to cut the lead to 7-3. PLAS got as close as 7-5 in the sixth, but MEMA scored its final run in the top of the seventh. PLAS cut the lead to 8-6 in the final inning, but could not creep any closer.
