The Goshen Lady Eagle softball team struggled to get hits during their weekend tournament.

Tuesday night, they scored nine runs, but left 15 runners on base as the fell to Luverne 10-9 in eight innings.

"We got the hits, but we couldn't get them at the right time," Goshen coach Dee Hughes said. "I told our player, 'We can't leave 15 runners on base and expect to win.'"

Amanda Drivas was one of the better hitters on the night, hitting a perfect three-for-three with a double and four RBI.

"This was a good night for her," Hughes said. "She had been in a slump but she came out of it tonight."

Ashley Miniard also had a productive night for the Lady Eagles. She hit two-for-three and has three RBI as well. Kristin Ricks also hit a double and drove in three runs.

The Eagles, though, could not force across enough runs. The Eagles entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 7-6 and got bases loaded with no outs.

They managed to score only one run, though, and had to go to extra innings.

"This will sound ugly, but we could have won the game with bases loaded by letting them walk us," Hughes said. "But that wouldn't be right. I wouldn't be teaching the players to do what would help us win games later down the road. That is to hit with runners on base."

Kerri Griffin delivered in the top of the eighth inning with a two-run triple. She scored on the play when short stop Candi Faulkner threw the ball away trying to get it back to the pitcher.

Griffin's run put the Lady Tigers up 10-7 and would prove to be the deciding run as Goshen scored two in the bottom of the eighth.

Luverne's Tiff Tranum pitched all eight innings to get the win. Heather West took the loss.

Goshen's record is 3-5 and the Eagles will try to right the ship Saturday in the Marbury Classic.
