Tetanus vaccinations for students were waived last year due to shortage of the vaccine.

However, the state of Alabama requires that all students attending public school have a current immunization record. Now, the vaccine is available and the waiver is over, said Betty Farrar, Pike County school nurse.

&uot;Nurses from the Pike County Health Department will be at Pike County High School and Goshen High School on Feb. 11 to up-date immunization records,&uot; Farrar said. &uot;Parents of the students needing immunizations will receive notification from the school along with a permission form that must be signed and returned by Feb. 11.&uot;

Farrar said parents should take advantage of this opportunity to get their child's records up-to-date.

Farrar said the most convenient way for a student to receive the tetanus vaccination is through the school program.

&uot;But, in order for a child to be vaccinate, we must have a signed permission form,&uot; she said. &uot;If we don't have it, the responsible will then be the parent's or guardian's.&uot;
