Pike County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter national board program.

The county has been chosen to receive $14,272 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The selection was made by a national board, chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Association and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army, America Red Cross, United Jewish Communities, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ and United Way of America.

The local board was charged to distribute the funds to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in areas around the country.

The local board is also responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen must: be a private voluntary non-profit unit of government, have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs and if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
