On senior night in Goshen, the Eagle basketball teams could only afford a split with visiting Brantley.

The girls' team survived a fourth-quarter collapse to win in overtime 73-66, but the boys' team could not overcome a cold-shooting second half and lost56-43.

The girls' team led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but shot miserably from the free-throw line and made some questionable decisions down the stretch. The Lady Eagles kept trying to take layups instead of running out the clock and the missed shots came back to haunt them.

"I kept trying to tell our guards to slow it down, but they are young and wanted to run," Goshen coach James Pair said.

Brantley tied the game at 58 at the buzzer with a three-pointer and took a 63-60 lead in the extra period. Goshen then went back inside to Ashley Miniard in the overtime and she responded. She scored six of her 24 points in the overtime period and hit two free throws that gave Goshen the lead for good.

Tyeka Jackson scored 17 points for Goshen and Lakeisha Cope scored 15. Senior guard Candi Faulkner made her final home game a memorable one. She hit her first three-pointer and scored a career-high five points.

"I was proud of the team," Pair said. "We fought back and won."

The boys' team could not get on track in the second game of the doubleheader.

Damareo Green scored nine points and Amos Wilcoxin added 14, but it was not enough.

Brantley had three players in double figures. Devin Pearson scored 15, Josh Daniels scored 16 and Terrell Foster scored 14.

Brantley outscored Goshen 36-22 in the second half and won by 13 despite not hitting a three-pointer the entire game.
