The Goshen Eagles traveled to Tiger country Tuesday night and took the court for two varsity games that came down to the last free throw.

The girls' team won 41-37 in overtime and the boys' team won 59-56 in a nail biter.

James Pair, head coach for the Goshen High School varsity girls, led his Lady Eagles in to battle against Chuck Alford's Lady Tigers. Scoring was tight throughout and the win was claimed in an overtime match up.

The Lady Eagles claimed the crown in both the first and second period with scores of 9-6 and 17-14 respectively.

A slight turnover occurred in the third quarter and the Lady Tigers edged past the Lady Eagles with a 22-21.

Both teams hit the basket hard and brought the score to a 35-35 tie by the end of the fourth. The Lady Eagles claimed the 41-37 victory in the first round of overtime.

Pair said he was proud of the effort his players put into the game even with a few key players not being present.

Top scorers for the Goshen Eagles were Ashley Miniard with 17 points, Hope Wheeler with 12 points and Tyeka Jackson with 9 points.

Top scorers for the Lady Tigers were Domonique McMillian with 10 points, Chavone Harris with 9 points and Kerri Griffin with 8 points.

YZ Rogers, head coach for the Goshen High School varsity boys, led his Eagles in to battle against Richard Dorsey's Tigers in yet another pulse-pounding game that came down to free throws.

The Eagles jumped to an early 14-13 lead in the first quarter, but lost it to the Tigers in the second.

The Tigers carried their 30-24 lead from the second quarter and wrapped up the third quarter with a healthy 46-38 lead.

The fourth quarter witnessed a renewed energy in the Eagles and the boys pumped up the scoreboard, running neck and neck with the Tigers.

The end product of the Eagle's efforts, a 59-56 victory over the Tigers, was solely due to hustle and sunken free throws.
