Debbie Groover, 21 Club sponsor, said

eight young women will vie for the title and the opportunity to compete in the National Peanut Festival Pageant in Dothan in the fall, this year.

"The number of contestants we have fluctuates from year to year," Groover said. "Some years we have had as many as 20. This year we don’t have a large number of contestants, but we do have eight outstanding young women. Any one of them will represent Troy well."

The contestants are Adrienne Adams, Nancy Gibson, Rachel Jennings, Cherish Lee, Whitney Locklar, Amanda Mathews and Erin Wood, all students at Charles Henderson High School, and Hannah Rodgers, a student at Pike Liberal Arts School.

To be eligible to compete in the pageant, a contestant must be 17 years old by Oct. 1, 2001 and be either a resident of Troy or attend a high school in Troy.

Reigning Miss Troy Holly Graham, a senior at Charles Henderson High School,

and Becky Walker, president of the 21 Club, will be the mistresses of ceremonies.

"We have an exciting night of competition planned," Groover said. "Troy School of Dance and Kinetic Energy will provide outstanding entertainment for us. We are looking forward to crowning Miss Troy 2001 and invite everyone to come out and support these young women as they take the stage in quest of the title."
