Troy Americans suffer setback in Geneva, Nationals beat Greenville

The Troy Americans suffered their first setback in sub-district play, while the National team beat Greenville 11-4, improving to 3-0 in postseason play.

Troy beat Greenville in Georgiana, breaking open a close 2-1 lead in the third inning with four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth.

Ross Hixon pitched a complete game for Troy, allowing four hits and striking out nine batters. Hixon gave up just one earned run.

Chase Connell had a single and double with four RBIs to lead Troy offensively. Will Starling, Daniel Floyd, Chance Shaver, Jayden Barnes and Gerard Pollard also contributed singles.

Dustin Till had a double for Greenville. Ryan Smith, Cooper Lewis and Jay Johnson each had basehits also for Greenville.

Enterprise Nationals 11

Eight errors, many of them in crucial situations, caused the Troy Americans to drop their first game in Geneva, falling to the Enterprise Nationals on Tuesday night 11-6.

Tyler Eldridge went the complete game for Enterprise, scattering eight hits over six innings to earn the win.

Enterprise opened with a two-run lead in the first, but Troy came back to score four runs in their at-bat. Gaige Garrett singled in the inning and Quay Lawson doubled him in. Blake Thomas hit a two RBI double and Logan Stewart added a sacrifice RBI also in the inning for Troy.

But that was all the offense Troy could muster until the fifth inning as Mitch McLeod bunt singled to lead off and Cody Johnson followed with an RBI triple. Nicholas Mobley also forced a runner home with a ground ball hit.

Stecolian Brown and Morgan Brown also had singles in the game for Troy.

Enterprise received a bye into Friday’s sub-district championship game and awaits the winner of tonight’s Geneva-Troy game.
