to Pike County veterans, which begins at 7 p.m. today. The event pays tribute

to Vietnam Veterans, an oft-forgotten group of patriots who service to the country strikes emotional chords with many Americans.

On Saturday, the City of Brundidge hosts its old-fashioned Independence Day

parade. Firetrucks, floats and more red, white and blue than you can shake a

stick at are all on tap for the parade. Hundreds of residents – young and old – will line the streets of Brundidge for the parade, in true community

spirit.

On July 4th, the City of Troy hosts its annual Independence Day activities at the Sportsplex. Horseshoes and sack races, water slides and watermelon contests, dancing and singing are just a few of the activities on tap.

Of course, the explosive fireworks display – billed as bigger and better each year – brings the activities to an exciting close at 9 p.m.

The event, which begins a 5 p.m., is truly a family activity, and it draws us together as a community into a fun, relaxed celebration. It’s the type of "community event" that characterizes small towns and creates the enviable quality of life that we have here in Pike County.

We have much to celebrate this Independence Day –

from our freedom to our hope to our future – and we look forward to joining with our friends and family in the PIke County community as we celebrate.
