No, not the Braves. Atlanta plays a million baseball games a year so do you honestly think you’ll miss anything by stepping out to the Troy Sportsplex this week and supporting our home teams?

These are the children you’ve known all your life citizens of Troy. These are the kids you’ve watched grow up, watched play this game, offered them ‘high-fives’ at the park. When was the last time you were able to get close enough to pat Chipper Jones or have him over for a swim party at your house?

Let’s get out and watch our children play.

The Troy 14-year-old Dixie Boys team is a tremendously talented one and has a great pitching staff. Friday night’s 1-0 win over Greenville was one of the most exciting games we here at The Messenger have seen in a long time. Head coach Cot Wallace and his assistants are to be commended for the job they have done in coaching this squad of fine, young athletes.

Likewise, the 13-year-old squad, coached by Sam Kitchens, are as good as you’ll find around Southeast Alabama. They’ve got plenty of crack in their bat.

Both of these teams could make both the district and state tournaments and by then they’ll be too far away for most people to travel. And if by chance either of these two teams make it to the Dixie Boys World Series, you’ll be left scratching your head and wondering why you didn’t get out to the Sportsplex and see them while you had the chance.

As the saying goes: "Time flies fast while you’re having fun."
