Arrest made in robbery

Arrests were made late Friday afternoon in the Jan. 14, 2002, armed robbery at Ward’s Grocery in Springhill.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said the sheriff’s department obtained leads that led to the confessions and arrests of Jerome Harris, 22, of Rt. 2, Box 340A, Troy, and Antron M. Jackson, 20, of 531 Walnut Street, Troy.

Both men have been charged with robbery, first degree, and are being held in the Pike County Jail on $100,000 bonds.

"As in any unsolved crime in Pike County, the sheriff’s department continues to work the case," Thomas said. "We follow up on any leads or tips and continually seek information that might assist us in solving the case.

"The leads that we received in reference to the armed robbery at Ward’s Grocery turned out to be good information and led to the confessions and arrests of these two men. That’s why we always take a never-give-up attitude on any unsolved case."

According to Pike County Sheriff’s reports, around 8:56 p.m.

Jan. 14, 2002,

two males, one armed with a gun, entered Ward’s Grocery on Highway 167 in Springhill.

"The one armed with a handgun rushed the clerk at the counter and demanded money," Thomas said. "The men were in and out of the store in 30 seconds and fled the scene with $300 in cash."

The clerk was not injured in the incident.

The case has remained under investigation four and a half months.
