Sophomore Jesse Morrow set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles and the Troy State 4×100-meter relay team posted the best time in TSU’s Division I history, highlighting the performance of the Troy State track & field team this past weekend at the Florida State Invitational.

Morrow’s time of 14.37 shattered the previous best of 14.48, set by Jasper Demps in 1999. The team of Andy Britt, Michael Acree, Emery Vickers and Louis Harris, meanwhile, posted a 40.46 in the 4×100, the best since the 1988 team ran the event in 39.86.

"We had some outstanding performances," Troy State Director of Track Bob Lambert said. "Jesse was fantastic, as was the 4×100 team. School records are hard to come by, so it was a great afternoon all around."

A limited squad of eight men and four women participated in the meet, with several athletes posting impressive performances.

Senior Amanda Mason continued her excellent season by winning the javelin competition with a throw of 136-6, her second-best effort of the season. The victory was her seventh this season in the event and her fifth straight.

Sherion Taylor finished second in the triple jump with her effort of 38-11.

On the men’s side, Acree, the A-Sun Freshman Performer of the Year, continued his excellent first season as well ­ finishing second in the long jump with a 23-9 1/2 effort.

The same group of athletes will participate in the Georgia Tech "Last Chance" meet this upcoming weekend with one final shot at qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

"We have a few who are really close, and we want to give them every chance we can," Lambert said.
