Freshman catcher Tamra Howren and senior third baseman Mindy Porep were named first-team all-conference, and junior outfielder Peggy Swift was named second-team all-conference as announced by the Atlantic Sun Conference on Wednesday.

Howren was also named to the all-freshman team with outfielder Jenny Boyd and pitcher Ashley Floyd.

"I am really proud of what each of these girls has accomplished this season," said Troy State head coach Melanie Davis. "Each one of these players was key to our success during the regular season and will be an important part of our success in the postseason."

In just her freshman season, Howren broke the single-season home run and RBI record.

She hit eight home runs this season, eclipsing the former record of seven. Her 53 RBIs led the A-Sun and broke the former record of 50.

She hit .314 on the year and also led the A-Sun with 17 doubles.

"I am really excited about Tamra’s success this season, especially with her being named first-team as a freshman," Davis said. "To come in as a freshman and break the records that she has is exciting."

Porep led the Lady Trojans in batting for the second straight season, hitting .343 with a team-leading 34 runs scored.

She also led the team with 15 stolen bases and led the A-Sun with 24 sacrifice bunts.

"Mindy has been one of our mainstays over the past two seasons and is deserving of this honor," Davis said. "She been solid defensively at third base and has been a team player throughout her career."

Swift finished the regular season with a .285 batting average and was third on the team with 22 runs batted in.

She has eight doubles and was tied for the team lead with two triples.

Late in the season, Swift tied the school record with a 10-game hitting streak.

"Peggy came on strong during conference play and has been a sparkplug for our offense," Davis said. "She stepped up late in the season when we needed her.

I am really pleased with how well she has played, and this honor is well deserved."

Boyd, who transferred from Auburn in the fall, stepped into the starting lineup and excelled in the leadoff spot, finishing second on the team in batting average at .318 and on-base percentage at ..391.

Floyd moved into the starting rotation due to injuries and finished with an 11-4 record and 1.27 earned run average.

She threw five shutouts, including the third no-hitter in school history against Georgia Southern on Feb. 22.

"Jenny and Ashley have impressed me with how well they’ve played as freshmen," Davis said. "Jenny has stepped into the starting lineup after not even playing in the fall and has played well.

Ashley came in when we had some injuries early in the season and pitched well.

We’re really proud of what they have done this season and look forward to seeing them improve throughout their careers."

Troy State faces Georgia State in the first round of the A-Sun tournament on Thursday morning in Troy. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
