TSU competes in Samford Twilight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy State men’s and women’s track teams competed in the Samford Twilight Invitational Saturday at Seibert Stadium. Both the men’s and women’s teams were looking to improve their performances and qualify for the NCAA regionals.

On the men’s side, freshman Michael Acree took first place in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet and 5 14 inches. Acree also placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (10.91 sec.) and sixth in the 200 meter dash (22.27 sec.).

Other top performers for the men include; Rob Barton, who placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.91, Chris Batista, who placed first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:01.55, and Jessie Morrow, who placed second in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 14.79 sec.

On the women’s side, Amanda Mason led the Lady Trojans as she took home first place in the javelin throw with a throw of 135 feet six inches. Mason has yet to be defeated at a meet this season.

Other top performers for the women include: Julia Miller, who placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.92, Erin Doud, who placed fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:55.84, and Sherion Taylor, who placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet one inch.

The men’s and women’s track teams will be will be back in action as they compete in the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 9-10.
