This weekend, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Jean Lake Festival.

The event, which brings together the finest craftsmen and artists in the

region, is truly a feather in the cap of Pike County.

Developed on the vision of artist Jean Lake, this two-day festival has

developed into a noteworthy event showcasing established as well as emerging

artists. From Nall to Mary Ann Casey to Wayne and Pam Snellgrove, the

festival draws from among the best talents our region has to showcase.

This year, a number of new artists will join the Jean Lake slate, brining

their talents in mixed media, photography and more to the patrons.

Pike County is recognized throughout Alabama for its unique artisan culture.

In a community which demographers could quickly label as rural, we have

nurtured and been blessed with an extraordinary amount of talent, from

painters to sculptors to photographers. Moreover, our community boasts a deep

appreciation for artisans and their work.

And that connection with the arts only serves to enhance the quality of life

in Troy and Pike County and to foster a growing appreciation for these artist

and their works.

That appreciation, and support, is evidenced through the immensely popular

Jean Lake festival. For 20 years now, it has been a success — both in the

eyes of the patrons and the participating artists.

We expect this year to be nothing less than a stellar success. And we encourage each of you to take part in the festival. Tickets are $5

each; $8 for a two-day pass; and children can enter for free. The event takes

place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the

Pioneer Museum of Alabama.
