Good news is all around us.

It might be easy to overlook, or even overshadowed by more dramatic events and happenings, but it exists all the same. Sometimes we may be so wrapped up in our lives and our activities that we fail to recognize, even celebrate, the littlest bits of good news. That’s why we at The Messenger pledge to spend one day each week celebrating that "good news," in small bits and large:

· Hundreds of youngsters and their parents heralded the start

of "summer ball" on chilly Saturday this weekend as the Troy Parks and Recreation Department officially began baseball and softball season. The opening day ceremonies were well orchestrated by the Parks and Rec officials and we congratulate them on their efforts. Kudos, too, to the dozens of parents who’ll volunteer their time this year as coaches, assistants of even "dugout moms." Thanks for your willingness to be involved and to share with our young people.

· Congratulations to the members of the Troy Rotary Club who helped host another successful President Elect Training Session at Troy State University. The Troy Rotary members are active representatives in our region, and we should celebrate the leadership our local Rotarians provide.

· We congratulate all the young ladies who participated in the Miss Troy pageant this weekend. Their willingness to step forward and compete for the title of Miss Troy speaks volumes about their pride in our community and the promise for our future.

· "Bravo" to the writer, director, performers and volunteers who helped play a part in "Come Home, It’s Suppertime." This Brundidge Historical Society production at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge, is truly a home-grown event and has won the praise of audiences at each of its performances. An encore performance is offered Wednesday, but tickets sold out in just minutes. We salute these artisans and their work and look forward to more productions in the future.
