Chaquita Alexander scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Troy State over Belmont, 83-58, Thursday in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

The first half was a tale of three different runs, as Troy State (9-16, 8-10 A-Sun) opened the game on a 10-4 run keyed by two Alexander buckets to put the Lady Trojans up by six with 14:31 to play in the first half. Belmont (18-6, 12-5 A-Sun) then surged back, going on a 15-2 run themselves to grab a seven point lead with 10:28 left in the half. Troy State then closed out the half on a 30-13 run to put the Lady Trojans up by 10, 42-32, at the half.

In the second half the Lady Trojans came out firing on all cylinders. A three-pointer by Heather Kaiser at the 11:15 mark put Troy State up 62-42.

A free-throw by Belmont’s Missy Walker cut Troy state’s lead to 14, but that is as close as the Bruins would get. Troy State sophomore Kerri Fiehrer’s seven free throws in the last two minutes put the game out of reach.

"It feels great to play a full game," head coach Jerry Hester said. "We did a great job coming out in the second half by not letting up. Not turning the ball over was the key to this victory."

The Lady Trojans only turned the ball over 11 times to match their season-low. Troy State first accomplished this feat against Samford on Feb. 2.

Thursday night was senior night at Trojan Arena. Troy State’s Rebekah Waters scored seven points and dished out three assists in the last home game in her career.

For the game the Lady Trojans shot 48 percent from the field and 71 percent from the charity stripe. The Bruins finished the contest shooting 29 percent from the floor and 79 percent from the free-throw line.

Troy State will be back in action Feb. 28, as they travel to take on Stetson in DeLand , Fla. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
