Goshen opened up a four point third quarter lead into an eventual 20-point victory, winning the game 72-52 and improving their record to 14-4 overall.

The first quarter was a back and fourth battle between the two teams. Goshen’s Quez Burden came off the bench and scored four quick points to give the Eagles the lead. Burden, along with Kendaris Pelton, dominated the boards early, which proved to be the edge for GHS in the game. Goshen led Red Level 15-12 at the end of the first.

The second quarter would see Averick Rogers slip into a zone. He would go three-of-five from three-point land and score nine points in the quarter. Rogers’ contribution helped the Eagles pull out to a nine-point lead at the half, leading 33-24.

Pelton stayed solid in the second and finished the half with eight points.

The Tigers were led by Frank Tolbert’s seven first half points.

Red Level came out of the locker room determined to get back into the game. The Tigers fought back to tie the game with less then two minutes to go in the third quarter and went into the fourth trailing by only four points.

But Goshen heated up in the final period. Ge-Vonne Cooper applied constant pressure on the Tiger guards, forcing six second half turnovers. Cooper would score 12 of his 14 points in the second half. Rogers regained his touch in the fourth and burned down eight more.

Rogers would lead the Eagles in scoring with his 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. He was helped by Cooper, with 14, and Pelton with 10 points.

The Tigers were led by Anthony Rice, with 10, and Dexter Brundidge and Frank Tolbert, who scored nine each.

The Lady Eagles tried to keep their turnaround season going in the right direction and did it with an impressive 46-36 win over the Lady Tigers.

The once 1-10 Goshen girl’s squad have now won six out of their last seven.

Red Level trailed at the half, 23 -18, but the second half would be all Goshen. The Lady Eagles pounded the ball down low and center Ashley Miniard scored nine points in the third quarter alone. Lakesha Cope would add five points in the fourth quarter.

Ashley Miniard’s 17 points, 16 rebounds, and two steals led Goshen to victory. The Lady Eagles also got help from Lakesha Cope, with eight points and 10 rebounds, and Hope Wheeler with 10 points and seven boards.

Goshen will square off against the Pike County Bulldogs in Trojan Arena on Saturday night. The B-team boys will start at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity girls and boys action.
