Congratulations to neighboring Crenshaw County’s Junior Miss Laura Lynn Lester for winning the statewide competition Saturday night. Cheering her on was her longtime friend, Pike County’s Junior Miss Rachel Jennings.

Jennings and Lester attend the same church, so they were friends long before they were competitors for the Junior Miss crown. Both girls have impressive attributes that set them apart from other young ladies their age.

Besides being active in their church, they are also active in school activities and in community service. The Junior Miss program was only a natural step for both of them to take on their journey in making the most out of life.

The opportunities that Junior Miss offers young ladies are impressive. Besides the chance to win cash scholarships, these girls get the chance to form bonds with other young women who share their views and beliefs. The friendships usually last a lifetime and the girls carry with them a sense of accomplishment after having completed the program.

The girls who participate in Junior Miss put in many long hours on both the county and state levels, practicing and preparing for days and nights on end. All of those who competed deserve to be recognized as winners just for having the dedication to hang in there until the very end.

So, kudos to Miss Lester and Miss Jennings, and all the other contestants across this beautiful state of ours. And we make a wish of special good luck to Laura when she competes in the national competition in Mobile.
