Last week the Pike Liberal Arts School Lady Patriots (2-1) earned their second win of the season with a 40-30 victory over Fort Dale.

Head coach Robert Hawkins was happy to earn the win, but was perplexed at how it all came about.

"If you told me before the game that I was going to have three starters foul out in the second half and Beth (Anderson) was going to have zero points, I would have thought we’d lose the ball game," said Hawkins on Friday.

Anderson, PLAS’s shooting guard, bombed Hooper Academy for 27 points one week ago in a Lady Patriots’ win, yet was held scoreless against the Lady Eagles.

Anderson was also one of three Lady Patriots starters that went into the locker room at half saddled with four personal fouls. Forward’s Danielle Johnson and Brantley Kries were the other two. The three players quickly made their exit from the game when play resumed in the second half.

"The game was just weird," said Hawkins. "They (Fort Dale) scored two points in the third quarter and we scored none. Then we came out and scored 19 in the fourth."

With three of his starters sitting on the bench, Hawkins had to make some quick adjustments. Eighth grader Eden Harris came in to play point and Lindy Lukenhemier was moved to shooting guard.

Lukenhemier responded with 16 points. Rae Pinckard had 13 and Karly Tribe added 10.

"Karly played a really good ball game," said Hawkins. "I think she had about three steals in the second half. I just hope what we take from this game is that we can win if we all play together as a team."

The Patriots, however, weren’t so fortunate in their game against the Fort Dale boy’s varsity squad.

Pike Lib, playing without two of its starters, fell to the Eagles 53-42, also on Thursday night.

Starting shooting guard Layton Sanders and forward Druid Conrad were participating in the AISA All-Star Football game in Selma.

Brandon Hooks led the Patriots with 11 points, while Michael DiChiara had eight and Jared Waldrop and Dean Anderson each had five points.

PLAS returns to action tonight as they play host to Dixie Academy. Tip-off for the

junior varsity is at 4 p.m.

Pike Liberal Arts School will be on the road for its next three games and will play in the Wilcox Academy Tournament on Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. Both the girl’s and boy’s teams will play host Wilcox Academy on Friday night.
