TROY – The Troy State football team has a huge weight that can be lifted on Thursday night if it wins. The Trojans have now dropped two games in a row and a third would be detrimental to their Southland Football League title hopes and more importantly their shot at a Division I-AA national championship.

Troy State will play host to another SFL foe on Thursday night, Southwest Texas. The 12th-ranked Trojans (3-2, 0-1) and Bobcats (3-2, 1-0) will kick off at 6:37 p.m. at Richard M. Scrushy Field at Memorial Stadium in a game being televised in Alabama and Texas by FOX Sports Net.

The Trojans had a light workout on Wednesday as they went through their usual pregame workout, however, with the game falling on a Thursday night this week the Trojans were forced to back their schedule up.

The Trojans focused on special teams, their offensive two-minute drill and on kick and punt returns.

"It is important for us to get as many reps in today so that we can limit our mistakes come Thursday night," said head coach Larry Blakeney. "We need a mistake-free, turnover-free game to be successful against Southwest Texas.

"We need to have a great effort and very strong emotion tomorrow night because our opponent is very highly motivated because of their 1-0 status in the league."

TROJAN NOTES: This week’s game will be Take-A-Kid-To-The-Game Day at Richard M. Scrushy Field, when all children 12 and under will be admitted free.
