For the first time in Troy’s history all five council members and the mayor were re-elected.

Tuesday night, the Troy City Council certified the election results of the runoff between José Henderson and Charlie Dunn Sr.

Henderson won the runoff with 254 votes and Dunn received 205 votes.

The totals included those ballots that were hand counted because the ballot for one reason or another was not counted by the machine.

Of those ballots actually counted by the machines, Henderson received 166 at the Community Complex gym on Elm Street and 81 absentees. Dunn received 176 votes at the polling place and 27 absentee votes.

"I think it was one of the cleanest races ever run," Mayor Jimmy Lunsford said of the runoff between Henderson and Dunn.

"I’m glad it’s all over," Henderson said after the final results were announced.

He commended his opponent and said he pledges to work with the other council members "to do what we can for Troy."

Lunsford said he is looking forward to continuing the council’s efforts.

"I look forward to four more years of progress in the city," Lunsford said.

After remarking on the historical significance of all the council members returning, along with the mayor, Councilman Jason Reeves said he, too, is excited about Troy’s future and the plans the council will come up with together.

Councilman Charles Meeks said he wants the city to continue to grow and thinks the first step is having all the council members and mayor returning to office.

They will be sworn into office on Oct. 2.
