Columbus, Ohio – Lancaster Colony Corporation announced Thursday that it has acquired Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls, Inc., a Luverne, Ala. producer of frozen par-baked yeast rolls.

Sister Schubert’s is an eight-year-old company with current annual sales volume of about $20 million.

Bruce L. Rosa, vice president-development of Lancaster Colony said, "We feel this high-quality product line is an excellent fit with our current specialty food products."

Rosa noted that Lancaster Colony enjoys a strong competitive position "in the supermarket freezer case" with its New York brand frozen bread products, including Texas Garlic Toast, the national leader in its category.

"We are particularly pleased that Sister Schubert’s founder (and Troy native) Patricia Barnes and George Barnes will continue in their senior management roles," Rosa said. He added that the business will continue to produce its signature yeast rolls, sausage rolls, cinnamon rolls and blueberry and orange sweet roll in its Alabama facility.

"We have an ongoing interest in growing our specialty foods business through good-fitting acquisitions such as Sister Schubert’s," Rosa said.
