The swimming pool at the Troy State University Natatorium will be churning with activity today at 4 p.m. as swim teams from Andalusia, Eufaula, Dothan and Troy meet to decide which team members will represent the district in state competition.

Bill Gospel, along with several volunteer coaches, have been working with the Troy Park and Recreation Department swimmers, making sure they are ready for the meet today.

"All of the kids have worked real hard," Gospel said.

Gospel said that he expects there to be over 175 swimmers, ages eight to 18, coming to compete today.

"We’re talking about over 80 events, maybe three or four heats in each event," he said. "So it’s going to be a pretty long afternoon."

Tracy Thompson said that she feels that Troy has a chance to do well in the district meet.

"There are a few kids who really have a good shot at making it to state," she said.
