Laura June Brown, 59, of Elba, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Zion Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Maddox and Mike Medley officiating. Burial followed at the Zion Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Elba with Hayes Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Tom M. Brown of Elba; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Givens of Troy; two sons, Tom M. Brown Jr. of Elba and Timothy M. Brown of Gadsden; mother, Hazel Grace Stevens of Elba; sister, Anne Boothe of Troy; brother, Jimmy D. Stevens of Huntsville; two granddaughters, Nicole Brown and Samantha Brown, both of Elba.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Stevens of Elba.

She was a lifelong resident of Elba and Coffee County.

Visitation was held at Hayes Funeral Home in Elba, on Friday, June 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Douglas Albert Pfeiffer

Douglas Albert Pfeiffer, 71, of Troy, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Edge Regional Medical Center in Troy.

Graveside services will be held at Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford, Mass., at a later date.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas Goode (Sally) Pfeiffer of Blacksburg, Va., Dan Ross Pfeiffer of St. Albans, Vt., and David Wayte (Sharon) Pfeiffer of Wales, Mass.; daughter, Dawn (Kenneth) Andress of Troy; twin brother, Donald (Joann) Pfeiffer of Cape Cod, Mass.; six granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.

He worked in the past as assistant treasurer at State Street Bank in Boston, Mass., and International Sales at Digital Equipment Corporation. He was a mason and served as corporal in the United States National Guard.

James Morgan McVay

James Morgan McVay, 65, of Troy, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

The funeral was held graveside Saturday, June 17, 2000 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Shults officiating. Skeen Funeral Home of Troy handled arrangements.

Survivors include wife, Virginia McVay of Troy; two sons, Lavon McVay and his wife Peggy McVay of Troy, and Larry McVay of Troy; one granddaughter, Debra Smith McVay and her husband Ray Smith McVay of Troy; a brother, Willie McVay of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.

Lasaunder Denise ‘Mae’ Ginyard

Lasaunder Denise "Mae" Ginyard, 23, of Trou died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Fountain of Life Church in Troy with the Rev. Lamont Herrington officiating. Burial will follow at Carroll Street Cemetery. George F. Grubbs Funeral Home of Troy is handling arrangements.

Survivors include her mother, Jennifer P. Bess; father, Ronnie Darby; step-father, Leon Bess; one son, DeTorrian Kéonté Green; two brothers, Reginald and Jonathan Ginyard; two sisters, Synarica and Kristy Darby, all of Troy; grandmothers Mary Jane Stringer and Rebecca Money of Troy; seven aunts; eight uncles; godfather Johnny Jones of Troy; two special friends, Mesha Dickinson and Garret Cole, both of Troy; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Ginyard was the granddaughter of the late Jimmy Lee Pless of Troy and the late Robert Darby of Troy.

Visitation will be held at noon on Monday, June 19 at Grubbs Funeral Home. A viewing will be held for family and friends at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and at noon for the public at Grubbs Funeral Home.

Ginyard was a Troy State University student and was a graduate of Troy Public Schools.
