Pike County employees were still moving in, cleaning up and facing some technical difficulties on Tuesday.

Employees began moving into the newly-renovated Pike County Courthouse late last week, but are still unpacking boxes and dusting off desks and counter tops.

In some offices it was business as usual with judges hearing from attorneys in the courtroom and residents paying their garbage bills.

But, in other offices, they were experiencing problems that should be fixed by the time offices open today.

The Probate Office was forced to close its doors on Tuesday because the computer system was not yet up and running. Late yesterday, Probate Judge Bill Stone said he hopes everything will be in operation today.

Some employees said they believed they moved back too soon after the $1.1 million renovation; others talked about the fact there were bound to be some problems because there always are in a move.

Many visitors will not, at first, notice any changes because the renovation project involved changes invisible to the public. Changes included installation of an elevator, which will make the courthouse handicap accessible; converting bathrooms to be in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act; a new telephone system; new ceilings and lighting.

Some offices also got new carpet and paint.
