The Troy Post 70 Senior Legion baseball team got their season underway with a flurry of long balls out of Riddle-Pace Field on the campus of Troy State over the weekend.

Hosting in one of the first Senior Legion Tournaments of the year, Troy started the season on a 3-1 tilt posting wins over Northview, Panama City, and Montgomery 210, but dropping a 13-3 contest to Enterprise.

In two of the wins the team saw the winning runs come off long-ball deliveries by some of its stars.

Hunter Mathews picked up a complete-game win on the mound against Panama City while also depositing a 2-run shot over the wall to account for the winning runs in a 3-1 ball game.

Likewise, B.J. Gralheer belted a 3-run shot in the Montgomery 210 game in which Troy won 6-3 with the Gralheer RBI’s accounting for the winning runs. Kevin Stephens notched the complete-game win on the mound in that one.

In the team’s 13-3 loss to Enterprise, which was ended on the 10-run rule, Jared Kelly accounted for all of Troy’s offense with a 3-run shot.

The team is made up of mostly Charles Henderson High School players with Matt Floyd of Pike Lib, John Lindsey of Abbeville and Richard Huner and Todd Clements, both of Eufaula, joining the mix.

Jason Barron, Will Jones, Stephens, Scott Stetson, David Taylor, Gralheer, Mathews, Jonathan Neeley, Chris Boswell and Jared Kelly join the squad from the CHHS roster. Wesley Pennington and Chris Hodge, also of Troy, will contribute also.
