The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans’ softball team gets their chance today as they square off against Walker at 9 a.m. in the AHSAA Class 5A State Tournament.

All the hard work and practice that the Lady Trojans have gone through throughout the season, and even their lives, comes down to the next few games.

For CHHS it is a perfect chance for the Lady Trojans to get back at the very teams that ousted them from the State Tournament last season.

Walker, who they will be facing first, defeated them in the first putting them in the losers’ bracket to face Hartselle who ran off with a 7-1 victory to eliminate CHHS.

If the Lady Trojans can get back at Walker in the first round and No. 2 ranked Hartselle gets past Escambia County in their first-round game the two will meet in the second round with a chance to move on to Game 11 without a loss.

Hartselle and Charles Henderson have met once this season with HHS taking the win, but the Lady Trojans were short a few players on that day and were without the services of their ace pitcher Betsy White as well.

Even without all their normal starters in the lineup CHHS was able to come from behind in the end and make a game of it, but the table and the intensity will be reset if the two match up in the playoffs.

White will do the honors on the mound for CHHS as she will be joined by fellow seniors Ashley Faust in center, Jennifer Boutwell in right, Amanda Pruitt at first, Emily Christian at second and Christie Bradley at third.

The six seniors will be playing their final games as Lady Trojans over the weekend with five of the six signing to play for various colleges and junior colleges.

Good luck to all the Lady Trojans as they attempt to bring home the State Championship to Charles Henderson High School. No matter what happens, you are all Champions where it matters most!
